Gameplay: Have you played a Final Fantasy game? Or any other RPG? Then your kinda in with something different. Final Fantasy 8 is a much different FF game out there. Yes it contains the "You hit me. I hit you when the bar moves" gameplay. But it has a much different system then the traditional FF game. Let's start with the main summoning system.

The summons in this game are called "GF's" or "Guardian Forces" . The GF's are for summon, raise your stats, and do outside battle ability's. When adding you GF to the person that you want to have, you have to go to Junction it to them. When you "Junction" the GF to them, you get to Junction magic to them also. Junctioning magic to the person will let you gain strength, magic attack, or defense. Then second junctioning with magic lets you gain better elemental attack and defense. The third junction magic adds status attacks and resistance against status.

To gain magic spells to add to the junctioning, you use an ability called Draw. Draw allows you to take magic spells from enemies and draw points. Remember to always have this ability equipped to you when doing a boss battle. You may find rare magic and GF's. Back to the GF's, the also have leveling up to do. Leveling up a GF (obviously) increases their stats and also makes them to learn more better ability's for you to use or them.

After every battle with a GF equipped on you, they gain AP. AP goes toward there level and the ability's that you set on them to learn. One thing I hated with this game is the leveling up system with the characters. Whatever level your highest person is, is the level of the enemies. Sounds familiar? That's almost like what FF: Tactics does (Random battles match your level while event battles don't. This is one thing i hated in FF: Tactics). So at the beginning of the game, you can just cheat and level up to max.

The weapons you equip are gained by receiving them from people or making them yourself. Yes, their is a craft system, kinda. When you pick up weapon magazines, you get a knowledge on how to make the weapon. To get the equipment to make the weapon, you kill enemies or buy the equipment.

One extra feature I liked in the game is a Card game. In the beginning of the game a guy gives you 7 cards (since he does not like card games) to you. The cards are monster or sometimes people you fight. To gain more cards for the game you either; battle enemies, win cards, find cards, get cards by talking to people, or turn enemies into cards. To turn enemies into cards, you will need the ability from a GF.

Story: I don't want to spoil the story, so let me give you the base of the story. You play as a SeeD member named Squall and a character named Laguna. Squall is basically a non-social man, you know the ones you have been seeing in most FF games (FF7 is what I'm talking about). You play as Laguna (at first) in your dreams. His story is based around a girl he loves. All in all, the story is great. If you like military style stories.

Last Note : This game is way more better then Final Fantasy 7 in my opinion. It takes about 60 - 70 hours to beat (with doing sidequest). I beat it in 38 (n' something hours) while doing the "switch off to my brother" method. Plus I've beat this game twice, so I know my way around this game. Music is great, presentation is about the same as FF7, graphics are great. For only $9.99, its a steal.

Alternatives: Well if you don't want this game, you can get these games that are as good as this game: Final Fantasy 7 or Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. Don't want the RPG? Get these instead: Crush, echocrome, or flOw.
