This seems to always be a highly debated topic. So allow me to clarify what is currently available and what is expected in the future.
Memory Stick PRO Duo
Currently the largest format that is compatible with the PSP-1000/2000/3000 models is the HC (high capacity) standard format. Currently this format has reached its maximum size at 32gb.
If you wish to have more space you can utilize a memory card adapter (HERE) to combine two 32gb microSDHC cards to get yourself to 64gb. Know that this isn't supported by Sony so go this route at your own risk.
Lastly, THIS IS NOT A RUMOR, Sony and Sandisk announced that they are working on a new format which is tentatively called "extended high capacity" format, which if it mimics the SD cards will mean that instead of "HC" they will be referred to as "XC" ... This new format is planned to span between 64gb to 2tb of space. Aside from not knowing when we'll actually see the first "XC" memory stick, we don't know for certain if it will be supported by the PSP. It is safe to say that we'll see a 64gb Memory Stick Duo before we see any 2tb cards. As of right now this format hasn't even been announced for retail yet so there is no need to ask when it is coming because no one knows for certain. Instead, you should be keeping an eye out for the last HC formatted 32gb card. Again this isn't fake information or anything and as the old HC format reaches it max, we'll start to see more and more info about the XC format.
For those who think there is no way to fit more than 32gb on a memory card, remember that when the PSP first came out the largest memory stick you could get was 1gb and here we are over 5 years later and we have a memory stick with 32 times the storage capacity. As more and more mobile devices demand larger storage, we'll continue to see companies like Sony and Sandisk striving to meet the need of the consumers.
Memory Stick Micro (M2)
This is the new format that the PSP go uses. Currently it is available in sizes ranging from 128mb to 16gb. Just as the PSP-1000/2000/3000 models support a format where the theoretical maximum is 32gb, so does this Memory Stick Micro format. There has been no announcement for when the 32gb stick will be made available but it is assumed that it will show up sooner or later. Look below to see the size difference between the PRO Duos and the Micros.
Thanks for reading. If my info is incorrect just PM me.
